In my developer community, devanooga, I see negative attitudes ruin people’s happiness, engagement, and the vibes of the greater community almost every week. This post is about an attitude shift that I want to see in the greater developer community, and in my own life.
Your Attitude in your Community Whenever I’m talking to an engineer, especially someone early in their career, I always recommend that they join a local developer community.

Podcasting and Cryptocurrency

The modern world of Podcasts is very different from the original idea that lead to their creation. In a time when the web was much more decentralized, RSS was a valuable tool to connect creators with consumers. Finding an interesting blog or news site that published an RSS feed made it much easier to read their content especially in a time when dial-up was still very much a thing for many internet users.

Vim Lineage

In the beginning there was Unix. At least, that’s where I want to start exploring how vim came to be.
For many trades, knowing your tool so well that it’s transparent between you and your work is vital. And to me, that includes knowing the history that led up to the tools at hand. Today, I mostly use Visual Studio Code as my editor (with a plugin to give me vi/vim keybindings), and vim is my go to for quick edits and most “sysadmin” type changes.

Echolink Node

In an effort to get the devanooga amatuer radio club (W3DEV) up and going, I’ve setup an allstar node and connected it to echolink!
Thanks to a donation of hardware from Will Rousch and guidance and testing assistance from Sam Lachance, I was able to setup an allstar node (50555) and connect it to the echolink network.
To connect and chat, just search for the W3DEV-L node in your echolink network.

FSF Membership

Just got my FSF membership stuff in the mail, which reminded me that I should show off my amazing membership button:

Hugo, cause why not?

Instead of writing blog posts, I’ve just been changing blog platforms.
Now I’m using Hugo. One day, I’ll actually write some content for this site. Today is not that day.
